Girls Day Out

My friend Janine and I decided it had been too long since we had been on a girl's day out. So this past week we decided to take the day off, which is one of the major perks of being a homemaker!  First I introduced her to one of my favorite restaurants, City Coffeehouse, in Clayton, Missouri for lunch. I ordered my usual, the Havarti Crepe with fresh fruit.  Janine ordered the Chicken Salad. (My mouth is watering!) We sat in the atrium.

Then on the spur of the moment, before spending the rest of the day thrifting, we decided to drop by and see if our friend Joy was home.  She lives just a couple of blocks from the restaurant.  We were in luck-- we found her in her back garden.

She was home babysitting her four year old grandson, Joplin.  He was busy playing with her chickens.  Joy has quite a collection of exotic chickens. She sells her wonderful fresh eggs at the local farmer's market. Here Joplin plays with his favorite Silkie chicken inside the chicken coop.

Joplin loves to find the fresh laid eggs for his Grandma.  This one was still warm!

Then we enjoyed Joy's lilly pond, which she converted from an old swimming pool into a haven for goldfish, lillies, and an occassional mystical visitor.

Joy has also has quite a collection of exotic birds in her outside aviary which has dozens of cages inside. The windows open in the summer and close in the winter.

Not to mention all the birds who live in little hidden houses in the trees.

And there are more plants outdoors (not to mention in the house and second floor greenhouse) than you can begin to name. She has many dozens of Bonzai of different varieties.  Here is a small example, behind her back porch.

 Notice the protective "snake"!

And then there is the flock of sheep, and friends, in the front yard.

I would love to show you more, but this is enough for today.
