Not Quite Superman

We were having a great time entertaining a couple dozen of Sweetface's c0-workers Sunday night.  It was a perfect night--until I got a call from Granddaughter Gretchen saying, "Grandmother, please pray for Ben--he jumped off the top bunk bed and his pants got caught on the railing, and he broke his arm.  We are on our way to the emergency room!"  Oh, dear.  Later I got this iphone picture of the temporary splint, made by my son Todd with a piece of cardboard, to keep 8 year old Ben's arm flat on the way to the hospital.

At the E.R. they gave Ben a sedative and did a temporary reduction of the fracture and said he would have to see an orthopedic specialist the next day.  Here is the x-ray:

Painful!  His big sisters told me that Ben cried so hard when he broke his arm that he shook all over.  So would I! And it was Ben's right arm, and he is right handed.  It's a good thing school is out for the summer. So yesterday the Ortho said Ben would have to have full sedation at the Children's Hospital to have his arm properly set.  This is the photo we got of them at 6:30 this morning:

Fortunately they did not have to do an open reduction.  So he went home later this morning with just a cast and no incision.  Ben chose a definite He-Man cast material.  Here he is waking up in the Recovery Room:

Later Todd told me, "Maybe a contributing factor was when I took Ben to see 'Superman: Man of Steel' yesterday."  Yes, that could have been motivating for a boy to test his flying skills, I suppose. Here is the last photo we received.  Superman is now sleeping it off...

...along with the teddy bear his little sister bought him at the hospital gift shop.

I can't wait to hug Ben when they come to visit us next week.
I haven't hugged Superman in too long.
