Washing Walls

The walls in our bathroom were getting to me lately.  They were looking a bit fuzzy, to be frank--dusty, dirty, schmaltzy.  "Schmaltz" is what I call that cruddy stuff that appears on every surface in the bathroom; a combination of dust and crud that solidifies whenever the shower sprays a steamy mist all over the room. Yuk!  It's one thing to keep the bathroom clean on a regular basis, but cleaning nine foot high walls is a bit more trouble.  Being a mere 5 foot two, that means me dragging out the tall ladder.  Or painting.  And I just don't want to paint over schmaltz.  And why pay for paint and do all that work when the paint is just dirty? So I was unmotivated. Until today, at least.  As I was cleaning the bathroom floor with my little Swiffer mop which I keep in the linen closet, it dawned on me--why not use the Swiffer mop to clean the walls? (Light bulb moment!

I put a fresh mop cloth on my Swiffer, and it took hardly any time at all to nicely clean all the walls--while standing on the floor.  No ladder.  No climbing up and down and getting exhausted.  Presto!  It worked great. No streaks.  The walls are so much brighter.  They look and feel and smell nice and clean.

Now to do the rest of the house.  But not today, maybe.  I'll put that on my list.

  2. Great idea, Linda! I've also used the Swiffer for ceiling fan blades.

    1. Which Swiffer pads did you use?

    2. I've used the wet and dry for this. I prefer the wet, because the dust sticks to them better and doesn't fly all over the room, which tends to happen with the dry.

    1. Yes, these were the pre-wet map cloths. You can get one side dirty then flip it over and use the other side.
