Thrifty Things

"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without."
I've been trying to be much more thrifty lately, especially in the "Do Not Waste" department.  So this week I did a few things to be frugal.

I had a small bit of gorgeous hand dyed wool yarn left that was given to me last year by a dear friend.

So I crocheted it into a nice hot pad! The remainder went into my jar of odds and ends to be used in some artwork, needle felting, or to wrap a gift. Done!

Then I repaired the inside armhole lining of Sweetface's winter coat.
It stitched up nicely, just like new!

And, being tired of spending money on replacement pads for my Swiffer mop, I found the most wonderful new mop.  It is by Rubbermaid, which I have always considered the most top-notch of products, and it was not expensive at Wal-Mart.  The great thing is that (1) you can put any cleaning solution inside the compartment which is reusable -I just use a bit of vinegar in water for our hardwood floors, and (2) the cleaning pad on the bottom attaches with velcro--you can pull it off, rinse it out, and put it right back on! And it cleans much better than the Swiffer pads, as the pad has little microfiber "fingers" on it, which clean in the cracks well. It is also a lot wider mop, making the job go quicker.  SO, this saves big money on both cleaning solution and cleaning pads--Wow!  I'm in LOVE with this new mop.  (Is that sick???)  It doesn't take much to make me happy.
